As separate paintings, in a mural, or in configurations of individual canvases, this series explores some of the ancestral connections that bind us together and define us as Americans. The memories of European, African, pre-Colonial American, Asian and Middle Eastern influences flicker across our landscape, blending into another. But here, Native American and Celtic iconography are juxtaposed with the world's poppies, an ancient plant that grows from our own backyards to Afghanistan's midlands, a symbol of past and present conflict, a memorial to fallen warriors.
